"One of Carrie’s contributions to the community came in the form of service to the One Book One Community (OBOC), a multi- county reading program. She was attracted to the yearly book selection process in 2010 when the title was The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. Soon she was sharing her love and knowledge of good books, especially young adult and science fiction. Her enthusiastic was contagious. When a new leader was need in 2012, she stepped up, as she always stepped up to life.
We could count on Carrie to bring our diverse group together, to do background research on line, and keep a forward focus. Working with her was a joy because of her personal energy and ever positive attitudes. Often we discussed books with great passion, both for and against. Carrie helped to keep the conversation civil and fun by helping us to laugh. We will remember Carrie – her enthusiasm, her joy and her competence in all that she chose to do. Her legacy will live on when we all continue to read and love good books. Every time any one reads a book suggested for OBOC, we can picture her smiling and encouraging us to really talk about it." Nan Cavenaugh, a past leader of the OBOC Selection Committee __________________________________________________________________________ "Carrie’s work and dedication to the OBOC Committee was unparalleled---she was a real professional. We all learned so much about the Book Selection process from her longtime involvement in that committee---especially when she shared her passion for so many of the books that were on the consideration list. As a consummate team member, she was always ready to take on the extra tasks and community outreach efforts. We have lost a wonderful colleague and a friend. It has been said that the brightest shooting stars are visible for only a brief time. Carrie was one of the brightest, shining stars whose light vanished all too soon. We will carry on, but with heavy hearts." Mary Ann Heltshe-Steinhauer, OBOC Committee Member |
