If reading is about anything, it is about what it means to be human. Literature takes us for a moment to another place and time. Good literature explores our capacity for love, hate, and redemption. Great literature posits universal themes and features authors who wield words in ways that make us feel more deeply.
I found People of the Book moving; I am glad that I read it if only for the kinship I feel for women in another place. It really is much more evocative of Michener than Brown, a good story and an uplifting one.
